Just as in everyday life, at work, we need to think carefully about what goals we want to achieve as well. Not only to meet financial needs, but there are also many other things that can actually motivate someone to work. Whenever we feel bored, the goals we set can be a reminder for us to seek and rediscover our objectives and passion at work.

“Do what you love and love what you do.”Indeed, love or passion for what we do is very important. That’s why I believe that finding out what we are truly into as early as possible is one of the important things we have to do. The sooner we find out about it, the earlier we can focus on that realm. That way, making passion our main job is not impossible, because we’ll find happiness in what we do.

1. Determining one’s goal

As stated earlier, it is important for us to set goals from the very start. To redefine these goals, in terms of business, there are basically three kinds of mindsets. First, job mindset. This happens when someone considers monthly income as his or her main goal. Second, career mindset. This mindset focuses on career improvement as well as income. Third, purpose mindset. It’s a mindset that prioritizes the deeper meaning of what one does.

After determining the type of mindset that best suits us, the next thing we need to do is rediscover our passion at work. Basically, passion represents an anchor that keeps our consistency in giving our best performance. With passion, the “hunger” to continue to develop ourselves will always stay there. I am positive that passion will keep us growing, both professionally and personally.

2. Passion can be built

Don’t get it wrong, passion can actually be built. However, how can we find and build that passion? The first thing for sure is that we have to change our perspective. Never assume that finding and pursuing a passion is something that is unbelievably hard to do. By simply hanging out with some people who are passionate and do know where they actually want in life, positive perspectives and energies will be formed over time.

Other than that, our strength is one of the other things we have to keep an eye on. Recognizing our strength will certainly help us determine the most appropriate career path. Try to pay attention to the topics of conversation that we find the most interesting. When conversating with other people, what kind of topics spark our enthusiasm? If you are comfortable talking about a specific topic constantly, well, it can be your passion.

3. Understand your passion as early as possible with an investment of time

I believe that passion is a condition where our motivation and emotion do stand on the same level. Working with passion does not mean working without challenges. Inevitably, we won’t always be happy all the time. However, whenever we face challenges and unpleasant situations, with passion, we will not give up easily. We will also try to find the best solution.

If asked to mention one of the most crucial things about passion, I’ll say: identify your passion as early as possible. To get the best answer, persistence and willingness should be a foundation. Go and get your head start as well. Based on my experience, friends of mine were didn’t really get the point of me participating in workshops and seminars when I was still in middle school, but why should I even care when I knew I was doing that for a positive purpose? By proactively participating in such activities, even up to now, I can increasingly focus my attention on what I really like.

As a young person, I understand that having fun with friends also plays a substantive role to get a balanced quality of life. However, at the same time, we do need to consider the so-called long-term visions of our lives. Live our lives to the fullest, but also set our own life-targets! Don’t worry too much about what other people say: ambitious, opportunistic. After all, being ambitious and opportunistic can also be a good example of a trait, really. Remember, it’s a time investment, find your passion as early as possible!
